| 2005-07-20 01:34 - Hollyhood claims that the movie will be as good as the game. | | Posted by ClassicDoom101 | more from same (Doom 3) | The creators and stars of the upcoming Doom motion picture promise it will be worthy of the best-selling first-person shooter that it's based on. As quoted in the article call "The Doom movie: A train ride to hell" Teh i don't blame them.
Producers John Wells and Lorenzo DiBoneventura played a clip where the film switches from third-person perspective to the point of view of co-star Karl Urban's character John Grimm, mimicking the game view to the extent of showing a machine gun being raised to eye level for reloading before Grimm blows away a series of hideous demonic forms. Which in the movie is mutant transformed animals.
It's dark, it's gory as hell, has a very "werid" plot. The movie doen't even take place on mars OR earth!
We were not going to make a PG-13 version of this picture," Wells said of the film, which will carry an "R" rating.
Doom is set for an Oct. 21 release.

| 2005-04-08 07:53 - Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil and Xbox Doom 3 In Stores | | Posted by Kev_Dawg | more from same (Doom 3) | Starting at midnight last night, the expansion pack for Doom 3, titled Resurrection of Evil, and the Xbox version of Doom 3 were officially put onto store shelves and available for purchase. This of course does not affect those of you whose stores were either foolish or foolhardy enough to have put the games up for sale before the predetermined time. Xbox Doom 3 comes in two flavors: a Doom 3-only package, and a Limited Edition package that also includes the original Doom games that (unlike Doom 3) can be played in splitscreen multiplayer.
As with last year, id employees were on hand to sign copies of Doom 3 and give out other promotional items (such as t-shirts and posters) in a store (Game Rush, in this case) in Dallas. According to Gamespot, Todd Hollenshead confirmed that Quake IV multiplayer will be revealed at, Quakecon this year, and that id's next project will still be what they do best, a first-person shooter.
Since the expansion pack is now available in stores, we're lifting our restriction on posting of RoE spoiler-ish material in our forums. Make sure, however, that when posting threads with spoiler content, to indicate them as such, thanks.

| 2005-03-17 03:07 - Doom 3 R.O.E. preview and Mac | | Posted by George | more from same (Doom 3) | Yahoo games have a preview of the upcoming Doom 3 expansion Resurrection of Evil Here.
"Making a return appearance from Doom II is the double-barreled shotgun. To say it packs a kick is something of an understatement. At close range, the double-barrel is a demon-demolition machine. Its only drawback is a slow reload time that is amplified by the need to drop in a fresh set of cartridges after every shot. Used strategically though, the double-barrel simply cannot be beat."
And the Mac OS X Doom 3 version has been shipped out to stores and should be available on March 19th both in the UK and US. There is no delay for Europeons like there was when the PC version was released.

| 2005-01-31 03:10 - Doom 3 Engine vs Half Life 2 engine comparision | | Posted by George | more from same (Doom 3) | The following topics are covered. - Lighting and Shadowing - Character Models - Artificial Intelligence - Animation - Physics - Sound - Networking - System Spec - Portability
Head on over to http://www.devmaster.net/ for a full review into both engines and which they think is the best.
it's pretty obvious that for making a game the Source Engine is the obvious pick. If I wanted to make a graphics demo or even a CG movie I would probably pick the Doom 3 Engine. The Doom 3 Engine's only advantage is the in the graphics department, which won't make a complete or even a good game. The Source Engine is the complete package and its only competition for graphics is Far Cry and Doom 3. Combining the two engines would be a dream of mine and pretty much any other game developer out there.

Central Conflict is a co-operative cyberpunk total conversion mod for Doom 3. The mod starts at around the year 2100, a time of corporate wars, international disputes, new ethical and moral laws, and the dawn of nanotechnology and advanced genetics which continues to grow at an alarming rate. Doom 3 Recall to Hell - It's over!
Argo from The Recall to Hell mod team has called it a day. He and his team will not be continuing development of the mod.
There are various reasons for this. Many of our members left because they simply didnt have the time anymore needed for the project. Others just lost interest in Doom 3. Let me say that Doom 3 probably has the best mod developing tools available, but also has a really small community, compared to other games, like Half Life 2 or Unreal Tournament 2004. From the Beginnings of this mod, we suffered a constant lack of talent in several fields of development, especially mappers and animators. [...]
There are still some other nice mods around, and you should really check those out... Doom 3 is probably one of the best games I ever played, and I will certainly keep watching its community.
Farewell! Argo
Take a look at their website Here. Theres some nice screenshots and concept art of what would have been the Recall to Hell mod. Maybe they will release some of their work for the rest of the community to use? Who knows...

C&VG have posted up a preview article of the upcoming expansion for DOOM 3, Resurrection of Evil, and have an interview with Tim Willits from ID Software.
C&VG: So there will be any new enemies spilling forth from hell?
Tim Willits: We've put in a lot of new demons, but we don't want to talk about too many of them at the moment. My favourites are a huge new creature called the Bruiser who's packing two chainguns for arms and is even bigger than a Hellknight, and a smaller imp-like creature called the Vulgar who's quick and deadly.

"When I saw the game running, I had to search the perimeter make sure that those crafty Microsoft representatives didn't have a high-end PC hidden under a table or something. I'm serious -- it looks incredible: the lighting is there, the animation is there, and the normal mapping is there. Vicarious Visions and id gave the Xbox platform a massive group hug in order to squeeze out every ounce of graphical power the console could muster"
